Infant looking at a book

A book for their first months of life

Black & White

With a stimulating sequence of sharp contrasts and patterns, this charmingly illustrated book is an opportunity to help develop your little loved ones' ocular health anytime you cuddle up to "read."

Lovingly created by a new grandmother

When baby Beckett was born, Jocelyn couldn't find any hand-drawn books that would stimulate his eyesight. So, she painted a series of illustrations and bound them into book form to show him during tummy time.

Knowing others could benefit from such a book, she set out to bring it into nurseries everywhere. And so was born: Black & White.

The early prototype in action

14 Paintings.
Infinite stories.

Bound in a 6x6" board book, the hand-painted watercolor ink images range from abstract to various animal representations. They are paired in contrasting sets to give caretakers boundless opportunities for captivating baby with their own narrative, helping to build language skills along the way.

The durable format allows for siblings and friends of all ages to join in the bonding time. As baby's motor skills develop (including grasp) they too will be able to take their stories anywhere their imagination (and mobility) allows.

How & Why

During tummy time, or when laying down or sitting up:

Hold the book 8 to 15 inches away from baby’s face and give them ample time to focus while you speak. This is their optimal range of vision.

This helps develop optic nerves, spatial awareness, and aids in lengthening their attention span.

And because the images are black and white, they’ll be captivated without being overstimulated.
